Azure Developer CLI, published by Microsoft Corporation, is an open-source command-line tool designed to shorten the path from local code to a running Azure application. Version 1.23.1500, the 88th public release since the project’s debut, streamlines the entire cloud lifecycle by exposing opinionated, high-level commands that correspond to the natural phases of modern development: code, build, deploy, monitor, and repeat. Instead of piecing together individual Azure Resource Manager calls or ARM templates, developers can run a single “azd up” to provision all required services, build the project, and deploy artifacts, while “azd monitor” surfaces live telemetry and logs without manual portal navigation. The utility is especially useful for teams adopting infrastructure-as-code patterns, micro-service architectures, or repeatable demo environments, because it auto-detects popular language stacks—Node.js, Python, .NET, Go, Java—and selects secure, production-ready bicep or Terraform templates from an extensible catalog. Built-in GitHub Actions and Azure DevOps generators further enable continuous deployment pipelines to be scaffolded in seconds, eliminating boilerplate YAML. Local emulation through integration with Azure Functions Core Tools and Visual Studio Code ensures that cloud dependencies such as storage, databases, and authentication can be exercised on a developer laptop before any Azure spend occurs. As a cross-platform Development / CLI Tool, Azure Developer CLI ships as a lightweight binary for Windows, macOS, and Linux, receiving incremental enhancements every two weeks that expand template support, improve credential chaining, and refine telemetry opt-out controls. The software is available for free on get.nero.com, with downloads provided via trusted Windows package sources (e.g. winget), always delivering the latest version, and supporting batch installation of multiple applications.
